William David Henley

William David Henley was born on January 14, 2010 at 1823. He weighed 8 lbs and 9 oz and was 20 in long. It was a very long day for all of us. My water broke at 1100 just was we walked into the chiropractors office for Rusty's appointment. We left there immediately, got our stuff from the house and Rusty drove very quickly to the hospital. From the moment my water broke I was very concerned because it was meconium stained and I was worried about my baby boy. Being an ICU nurse I only see the worst and so that's what I was afraid of. We got to the hospital and I put on that lovely hospital gown and got hooked up the all the monitors then they started the pitocin. I began dilating quickly and the CRNA came in a started my epidural. She gave one dose and then repositioned the catheter and it never worked again. For those of you out there considering natural childbirth...I don't recommend it! After 2 hours of pushing William got stuck and his heart rate began to drop so Dr. Wilson used the forceps and got him out quickly. He came out limp, blue and not breathing at all and his heart rate was still dropping. Luckily the NICU team was there ready to go and immediately began working on him. After lots of deep suctioning and bagging for what seemed like an eternity (it was really closer to 2 min) my baby started breathing and I finally heard him cry...it was the most amazing sound ever! Then I finally got to hold my precious baby! It was a long, exhausting day that changed our lives forever but it was so worth it! God has truly blessed us with a perfect baby boy!
